If they have security at the gate then the usual thing to do is have them sign in there and the security should make sure they put down the correct time of arrival. If they don't then they should at least have a receptionist, so they'll do it there instead. If they don't even have a receptionist then what job is this for again? Anyway, you'll have to delegate somebody, a supervisor, to do a roll call each morning (I think is the term). Anyone who comes after the roll call must report to that supervisor so he can record their time of arrival or else they don't get paid. And if for some reason you don't even have a supervisor then you either appoint someone to do the roll call, which is dodgy at best, or you just do it yourself.

And if you can't do either of those, well then the answer is, you don't. You trust everybody.

There's nothing fancy about this. There's a need, and there's ways to address it, some better than others. If you couldn't think of one single way to take attendance, then you should decline the position immediately. But I trust that you just wanted to know the best way.

That's your choice surely being a manager?
