Is a degree in paralegal studies the same as a degree in political science?

The college only explains this degree as a "degree in science", so does that mean political science? Thanks!

No. A degree in paralegal studies only allows you to be... a paralegal! Or a court recorder or something. Your career will reach a glass ceiling before you've even worked there for 2 years.
The "science" degree your counselor is talking about is what they refer to as a "soft science"--- basically your social sciences and humanities. That's all that means.
If you are going to go poli sci, go poli sci or nothing else.
