Say It Like You Mean It

I temp for a big company and nowhere in my contract does it say that if I don't claim holiday pay by the end of March, that I'll lose it. I've just been told this (as I put in for a week's holiday pay). Now my holiday pay is all gone and no one told me about this March business. Where do I stand regarding this?

Contact your State Department of Labor. It's worth a shot, but I am not sure you may have a leg to stand on with this argument. It will likely be viewed as it being your responsibility to get this information, but you never know. Call them. I've won arguments where no one thought I had a chance in hell of winning. I proved them wrong. Good luck and hope you get your money!

The policy would be stated in the employee handbook and I'm sure since you state it is a big company that you signed a form stating you read the handbook. Holiday pay is not mandatory (in the states) and most companies do not even offer temps holiday time. Unfortunately, it is your responsibility to read the handbook and to know what the policy is.
