I m a teacher, and I ve drafted an email asking my employer if I can switch to part-time employment. It s not really a resignation letter, but I m resigning from some of my duties. Stuck on a subject line!

Before you say an email is unprofessional: I d ask in person or submit a letter instead, but I won t be able to see her in person for two more weeks. All of her communication with me has been via email, so I don t feel like this is inappropriate.

Teaching is not "part time" as asserted by Lolly, at least not if the teacher is at all conscientious. In the school in southern Britain where my daughter teaches, many teachers (including my daughter) work a 4-day week because the job is so tiring.

Two weeks isn't long. Wait and talk to her in person. Send an email now asking for an appointment to discuss the possibility of your going to part time. And by the way, you can't just resign from some of your duties and kreep the others. You can request to be changed to part time, and suggest which dutues you'd like to keep.

Request for reduction of duties would work.
