hi everyone, I am an italian citizen living in the UK (London) and full time undergraduate student going to start my second year in uni.
I would like to start a voluntary work and I was wondering if it is possible to get some sort of benefit.
I would prefer to do this instead of working in some pubs since i need it for my cv as well but obviously i don't live of sole air and i need a little bit of money.
Any answer or suggestion will be appreciate.
If you can also recommend me some good volunteer association in south london i ll be grate full

Hi,

As far as I'm aware you can't get paid for that unless you are able to get a work placement in which case you may be eligible for some remuneration.

It maybe an idea to check out the DWP website or HMRC website as it may be possible for you to claim some sort of benefits as you are a student. Not sure if Tax credits apply as I think you have to be in some form of paid employment but there is no harm in asking them

well, voluntary work will not get you any money. You can do voluntary at oxfam shops etc. But i suggest got to a theatre work as an usher. The hours are good, you get to watch shows and you get payed. Try the Lyric Hammersmith or other theatres at the westend.

You need to be looking for full time work while claiming benefits and if you are doing voluntary work/full time student then you are not doing that so no.

Full time students generally aren't eligible for income-related benefits at all, but it depends on exact circumstances. You should check with a student advisor at your university, and go to your local Jobcentre, there's more information on this web page:
