FLSA does not apply to all employers...................

so far everyone is wrong on that part of the answer except Judy............

as far as your employer here is the definition of a covered employer:

All employees of certain enterprises having workers engaged in interstate commerce, producing goods for interstate commerce, or handling, selling, or otherwise working on goods or materials that have been moved in or produced for such commerce by any person, are covered by FLSA.

A covered enterprise is the related activities performed through unified operation or common control by any person or persons for a common business purpose and -

whose annual gross volume of sales made or business done is not less than $500,000 (exclusive of excise taxes at the retail level that are separately stated);

or

is engaged in the operation of a hospital, an institution primarily engaged in the care of the sick, the aged, or the mentally ill who reside on the premises; a school for mentally or physically disabled or gifted children; a preschool, an elementary or secondary school, or an institution of higher education (whether operated for profit or not for profit);

or

is an activity of a public agency.

Depends on what law you are talking about - many only apply to businesses of a certain size. For labor laws posters, they'd be required to post many, but not all - you can find info at dol.gov for federal posting requirements (and can print the required posters from there). Many states have posting requirements also - that info is usually on your state website. Your company doesn't have to pay a compliance company to keep track of it, but if you don't, check the dol and state site reasonably often to be sure you stay up to date. For a company of 6 employees, many of the postings aren't required, and the ones that are don't change all that often and usually when they do, it makes the news if you are paying attention

check http://www.dol.gov/compliance/topics/posters.htm for federal info.

It isn't a dumb question. It's an important one.

Don't use a compliance company at all! Just to on-line and you can download all the posters for free. Generally a bit of research on-line will give you dates as to when you need to update and change posters.

For a small company you don't need to pay for compliance. It's easy enough to research on the government websites. I have over 100 employees and get all my posters on-line.

If your company is headquartered in or does business in the United States or one of its territories your company is subject to Federal Laws.
