More specifically, if a hiring manager bases a non-hire decision on your credit report/score, are they required to inform you of that?

Unfortunately, yes. I have bad credit due some five-year-old utility accounts that I had with an ex. I applied for a second job at Wal-Greens recently and they do credit checks there. Wal-Greens! Come on..I wasn't applying to be a pharmacist, though it is what I'm going to school for. I was just applying for a part-time cashier position.

Fortunately, things drop off of one's credit report after seven years so those old bills hopefully won't be effecting my credit for much longer.

I don't know whether or not they are required to inform you. My guess is that they probably don't have to.

You don't need a lawyer to answer that question for you these days credit reports can be the hiring decision on a job. I recently interviewer for a job for a customer service reps at a bank call center and my interviewer was a A+ but when it can down to checking my credit it was not good. When hiring for a managers position most companies are looking for people who has a good credit.

no, they're not required to inform you of anything, even if you ask. Yes a credit report can be used in hiring decisions. If you have bad credit, used consumer credit counseling or have done a bankruptcy (anything you have done that shows you can't budget or that you're not responsible) there's a good chance you won't get hired for doing anything in finance, banking, economics, accounting or anything dealing with money. If you do get hired then realize they are watching you.

ought to they? that's more beneficial a remember of a opinion. i in my opinion do not imagine that it may well be a coated contained in the hiring procedure. The credit shows the previous heritage of the man. at the same time as some people by no ability change, others do. maximum employers do pull a credit document on new hires, and performance been doing this for a at the same time as. i recognize that that's needed by utilising my organisation and maximum tremendous organizations.
