You can file for unemployment for any week that you earn nothing. If you aren't working, it's extremely likely that you aren't earning anything.

Depending on your state's rules you may be able to file for the week that you start working if your earnings in that week are within the guidelines. So you will need to balance when you get your unemployment checks with when you will get the first paycheck.

Really ? I know for a fact that some companies are hiring some starting around 12-15 bucks an hour and they have been all year long,The problem being is that some still want to set on their duff and collect that check for doing nothing.

Even if you get your paycheck two weeks after you start working, you are being paid for that time. If you collect benefits for those weeks, you will be paid twice for that time - once by unemployment, and then by your company.

The unemployment asked if you worked any time during the week for which you are claiming. Even if you have not been paid for that time yet, you must answer honestly that you did work during that week, in which case you will not be paid benefits, since you were working and not unemployed during the claimed week.

Failure to report your change in status, or lying to collect additional benefits is considered fraud. It will be uncovered when your tax information is submitted, and you will have to repay any benefits you collected under false pretenses, and you can be barred for submitting any unemployment claims for a period of at least one year. Not worth it.

first things first....have u called them to give u a schedule?......have u tried to get in contact with anybody to when ur expected to start....only because ur hired by the company doesn't mean their ready for you to start...i once applied for a company got hired signed everything but they didn't start me until like a week later.....you should try calling them and seeing if they have a schedule for you.....but to answer ur question no....u can't collect because u we're just hired they don't have a schedule for u yet then...so call and ask if u haven't yet...u we're hired 12-30-11 dat was only 2 days ago ....plus if i was u i wouldn't call un employment for ur job when u haven't even started...I don't know about you but thats not a good impression before u even start
